ASSAY

Part one. The evidence.

Almost every number in sales is sold to you by the people selling the fix.

I went looking for the studies behind what this industry teaches. Mostly I found vendors.

5/24

failed the audit. Three of those were mine, reached for before I checked them. They stay on the page, marked.

This is disclosure, not an accusation. Vendors hold this data because vendors instrument the workflow. That is why it exists at all, and why the largest, cleanest samples on this page are theirs. Every one is cited here and several are rated the strongest evidence on the site. The problem is not that they published it. It is that it gets repeated with the sample, the date and the seller stripped off.

what winning calls sound like

because it records the calls

how many touches a meeting takes

because it sells persistence training

Salesforce knows

everyone is consolidating their stack

because it sells the consolidated stack

InsideSales knows

you must reply in five minutes

Every dot is a claim this profession teaches from. Faded dots were cut and are not used anywhere on this site. The shape is the argument. Almost everything sits along the bottom edge, published by whoever sells the remedy it implies, and the corner where a finding is both large and disinterested has two things in it.

Part two. Where the job actually is.

What measurement did to the profession

Three things still taught every week. Turn each one over.

Most commentary gets this backwards. Discovery, listening, qualification and preparation all survived measurement. Several got confirmed by it. What failed was the machinery built on top. And here is the part nobody in hiring says out loud: when most of a profession misses quota, a candidate’s attainment number stops being a signal of ability and becomes a reading of the market they happened to sell into.

Part three. My read, not evidence.

Where I think this job goes

Everything above this line is sourced. This part is not. Discount it accordingly. Every thought leadership post ever written is this section with none of the others attached.

What every deck quotes

10×

AI agents will outnumber human sellers ten to one by 2028, and manage more than 30% of initial outreach.

What machines take

  • Research and list building
  • First touch and follow-up
  • Sequencing across channels
  • Qualifying questions with knowable answers

What is left. This is the job.

Which account, which moment, which question, which next step, and which deal to walk away from.

If AI takes first touch and follow-up, then dials, sequences and touches logged stop being evidence of anything. Volume becomes free. What is left to judge a rep on is whether they can show their reasoning, which is a harder thing to hand somebody than a number. Go and take a call.

Part four. Limits.

What this cannot do

Three parts auditing everyone else only counts if I am at least as specific about my own.

It is not a system of record

It owns the call and the preparation for it. No forecasting engine, no quoting, no contracts, no team visibility, no sync. It will not replace Salesforce and is not trying to.

The workspace stays in your browser, including the awkward half

No database, no account, no analytics, which means a real prospect can go in it and nothing about them leaves your machine. The honest half: local storage is plaintext, readable by anything running on this origin and by anyone with access to your computer. It is not a vault, and clearing site data loses everything. A backup would need a server the workspace deliberately does not have.

One precise correction to a claim this page used to make more broadly than it should have. The feedback form is the single thing on this site that transmits anything. It posts the answers you type in it to one endpoint, which emails them to one address and stores nothing. It cannot see the workspace, and the accounts and call notes in local storage are not part of that payload. Everything else here remains a static file.

The scoring weights are invented

A considered hypothesis drawn from part one, not validated against outcomes, because validating them needs call volume this has not accumulated. Correcting them is what the Review tab is for. Until then the model is exactly as trustworthy as any other untested model, which by this site’s own argument is not very.

There is no usage gate, and there could not be

Metering requires a backend; any client-side cap is defeated by opening a private window. Rather than ship a lock with no bolt on a site about candour, there is none.

It is one sale, built properly, not a framework

One offer, one buying committee, one set of objections. A call tree that could be about anything cannot contain a sharp question, so this one was narrowed until it could. A second vertical rode alongside it for a while and was cut: two half-built sales prove less about portability than one built properly. The portability is still checkable, just somewhere better. No component in this codebase knows which sale it is running. Standing it up for another business is a content exercise, not an engineering one.
